Based on Louisa May Alcott’s American classic, this Civil War story of love & family stands the test of time. Little Women embodies the complete theatrical experience, guaranteeing a show filled with laughter, tears & a lifting of the spirit. The musical features plenty of great opportunities for female actors & singers ranging in age from teenage to 60 years old. The powerful score soars with the sounds of personal discovery, heartache & hope — the sounds of a young America finding its voice.

Character Breakdown:


An intellectual & pleasant story-teller who helps to orchestrate the show & illustrate lessons to the audience. Traditionally male but could be female. Any age. Vocal range G2 to E4.


A young, earnest maiden who is constantly mistreated by her stepmother & stepsisters. Female, age 20-30. Vocal range G3 to G5 — Soprano.


The feckless Giant killer who is “almost a man.” He’s adventurous, naive, energetic & bright-eyed. Male, age 20-30. Vocal range B2 to G4 — Tenor.

Jack’s Mother

Browbeating & weary, Jack’s protective mother who is independent, bold & strong-willed. Female, age 50-65. Vocal range Bb3 to Gb5 — Soprano.

The Baker

A harried & insecure baker who is simple & loving, yet protective of his family. He wants his wife to be happy & is willing to do anything to ensure her happiness but refuses to let others fight his battles. Male, age 35-45. Vocal range Ab2 to G4 — Baritone.

The Baker’s Wife

Determined & bright woman who wishes to be a mother. She leads a simple, yet satisfying life & is very low-maintenance yet proactive in her endeavors. Female, age 35-45. Vocal range F3 to G5 — Mezzo-Soprano.

Cinderella’s Stepmother

The mean-spirited, demanding stepmother of Cinderella. Female, age 40-50. Vocal range, A3 to F#5 — Mezzo-Soprano.

Florinda & Lucinda

Cinderella’s stepsisters who are black of heart. They follow in their mother’s footsteps of abusing Cinderella. Female, age 25-35. Vocal range C4 to Ab5 — Mezzo-Soprano.

Little Red Riding Hood

A spoiled young girl who is strong-willed, quick-witted, fearless, yet youthful & naïve. Female, age 15-20. Vocal range Bb3 to F5 — Mezzo-Soprano.

The Witch

Sarcastic, ugly-then-gorgeous, obsessive protector of Rapunzel who is straightforward & aggressive. Female, age 45-55. Vocal range F3 to G5 — Mezzo-Soprano.

Cinderella’s Mother

Deceased with her soul guarding & aiding her daughter from a tree. Female, age 40-55. Vocal range E4 to F4 — Soprano.

Mysterious Man

A mischievous vagrant & nosy meddler. He’s a good-natured protector & observer. Male, age 50-65. Vocal range G2 to Eb4 — Baritone.


Hungry & insatiable hunter who takes advantage of the weak by misleading & captivating his prey. Male, age 30-35. Vocal range Bb2 to Gb4.


A loopy-but-lovely maiden who is sheltered by the Witch & terribly lonely. She yearns to experience the world. Female, age 20-30. Vocal range, B3 to A5 — Soprano.

Cinderella’s Prince

Vain & gorgeous, he’s a disloyal lover who’s currently searching for the next new, exciting thing. Male, age 30-40. Vocal range B2 to F4 — Baritone.

Rapunzel’s Prince

Just as vain & gorgeous as his Prince brother, he’s always chasing the newest, most exciting endeavor. Male, age 30-40. Vocal range C#3 to E4 — Baritone.


Voiceover. The Giant’s wife is an angry & vengeful “monster.” She’s seeking restitution for her loss. Female, mature sounding voice.

The Duke of Athens. Marrying Queen Hippolyta of the Amazons after having recently won a war against them.  Male.


Queen of the Amazons, betrothed to Theseus following Athens victory over her people.  Female.


Theseus’s Master of the Revels.  Male.


A courtier at Theseus’s court.  Male. 


Egeus’s daughter, in love with Lysander. She refuses to marry Demetrius despite her father’s threats.  Female.


A young man of Athens, of good family & fortune.  Male.


A young lady of Athens, obsessed with Demetrius.  Female.


Not the most admirable of young men. Having wooed & won Helena, he directs his attentions to Hermia (who’s not interested but whose father favors him).  Male.

Peter Quince

A carpenter with literary pretensions who organizes some fellow workers into preparing a play he has written to be presented at the royal wedding.  Male.


A weaver who loves being on stage … and is a bit of a diva.  Male.


A working class young lad struggling with puberty.  Male.


A tinker who participates in Quince’s play.  Male.


A dim-witted working man who participates in Quince’s play.  Male.
